Alcohol and Drugs Information for Parents
The Alcohol & Drugs Information evening for parents provided a wealth of information, and we are very grateful to our six speakers. We plan to repeat this session in future. A list of useful contacts is available here.
West Lothian Local Plan
Update March 2010: The catchment review will run from 22nd April to 16th June. WLC will hold a public meeting in Linlithgow on 19th May.
Update February 2010: We have been advised that the expansion will go ahead. We do not yet know when the catchment reviews to use this capacity will take place.
Update 9/12/09: An exchange of letters with Council officials has not resulted in further explanation of how educational quality will be maintained. We will meet officials again in December.
Update 11/06/09: We have made a submission to local councillors on behalf of the Parent Forum, detailing the risks that we believe the expansion proposal creates for our children's education. See our submission here.
Update 3/4/09: we have met with cluster primary Parent Councils, who share our concerns. A joint session with Councillors and Council officers has been arranged.
West Lothian Council is still pursuing its intention to expand the notional capacity of the Academy with minimal investment (and, we believe, no new classrooms). The Council's Capital Plan has been updated in the light of the current tough economic climate, and most school expansion delayed - but not the plan for the Academy. This is now stated as required to remove constraints elsewhere in West Lothian - ie create notional space here so that children can be moved from elsewhere.
We continue to be very concerned that this inadequately funded expansion will severely compromise the quality of education at the Academy.
The Council's Partnership and Resources Policy Development and Scrutiny Panel has passed the latest paper with little discussion, and it will go to the Council Executive on 23rd December. See the detail here: Paper, Appendix 1, Appendix 2, Appendix 3.
We will continue to pursue Councillors and Officers alike to clarify and modify their intentions - please make your comments here on this site or directly to your Councillor.

Parent Council AGM 2008
The AGM was held on at 7:30 on 30th September 2008 at the Academy.
On 16th 2008 June West Lothian Council launched its amended development plans, which have potential implications for capacity at Linlithgow Academy.
The focus of the Parent Council will be to ensure the current excellent educational standards at Linlithgow Academy are not compromised by amendments to previously published Local Planning assumptions for West Lothian and Linlithgow.
The Local Plan is available to view in Council offices and libraries.
